Goldberg Retires From Acting
Posted by admin on Thu Oct 04, 2007 08:49 (Announcements)
Comedienne Whoopi Goldberg has announced she is retiring from acting to concentrate on her broadcasting career. The Oscar-winning star, 52, who replaced Rosie O'Donnell on long-running daytime show The View last month, insists there's "no room" for her in Hollywood anymore - because there are younger, more glamorous actresses taking all the jobs. Goldberg, who has made more than 40 films in her career, winning an Oscar for her role in Ghost, claims she has no choice but to retire from movies - because she never gets sent scripts anymore. She tells talk show host Larry King, "You know, there's no room for the very talented Whoopi. There's no room right now in the marketplace of cinema."

Stern Sues Over Anna Nicole Book
Posted by admin on Thu Oct 04, 2007 08:49 (Announcements)
Anna Nicole Smith's longtime companion Howard K. Stern is suing an American journalist for "exploiting" the memory of the late glamour model. Stern filed a $60 million lawsuit against Rita Cosby on Tuesday over "false allegations" in her new tome Blonde Ambition: The Untold Story Behind Anna Nicole Smith's Death. The book claims Stern and Larry Birkhead - the father of Smith's daughter Dannielynn - were lovers who plotted to get control of the late star's estate. Cosby, a former MSNBC correspondent, claims there is a sex tape to prove the pair were lovers. But Stern's attorney, L. Lin Wood, has furiously denied the accusations. Wood says, "Blonde Ambition purports to be a 'tell-all' book, but it can only be accurately described as a 'tell-all-lies' book. And I am sure Howard and the estate and everyone else involved is going to sue her, too. This is just nonsense...None of it is true." Birkhead has denied a sex tape exists and has also threatened to sue. Smith passed away earlier this year.

Disgruntled Fox To Quit 'CSI'
Posted by admin on Thu Oct 04, 2007 08:48 (Announcements)
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation regular Jorja Fox is to leave the hit drama after seven years. The 39-year-old actress first introduced the character of forensics expert Sara Sidle in 2000. She is quitting the show in November after failing to agree terms on a new deal. In an exclusive chat with TV Guide magazine, Fox reveals, "A couple of years ago, I decided not to take the raise that was offered me, (which) would have added a year to my contract." The actress admits she still feels frustrated and hurt after CSI producers fired her and co-star George Eads following a salary dispute in 2004. She adds, "I wasn't sure I wanted to give anybody any extra time. And the raise was terrible, to be frank. An extra year for that amount of money? No, thank you." But the actress admits she'll miss her onscreen love interest, William Petersen: "He's the most incredible scene partner I've ever had and he's a great friend. I couldn't have scored any higher than getting William Petersen to be my boyfriend on TV."

Judge Allows Spears Monitored Visitation Rights
Posted by admin on Thu Oct 04, 2007 08:46 (Announcements)
A Los Angeles judge has ruled Britney Spears' former husband Kevin Federline will retain custody of their two sons - but the pop superstar is allowed monitored visits to see her kids. The temporary ruling was made at a closed-door court session which lasted three hours on Wednesday afternoon. Spears didn't attend, although Federline showed up sporting an eye patch. Federline, wearing a pinstriped suit and sunglasses, refused to speak to reporters as he left court. Court spokesperson Allan Parachini says, "Britney's access to her kids works out to about every other day." The next hearing in Spears and Federline's ongoing custody battle for Sean Preston and Jayden James is scheduled for October 26 - both parents are required to attend. Spears lost custody of her sons at a hearing on Monday, after failing to hand in a valid California driving license. She was issued with an interim license from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) on Tuesday.

Kevin Keeps Custody and Britney Gets Visitation
Posted by admin on Thu Oct 04, 2007 08:44 (Announcements)
Kevin Federline retains custody of his two sons for now, but Britney Spears gets monitored visitation, a judge ordered Wednesday.
The temporary arrangement was decided at a three-hour closed-door court session attended by Federline, who was wearing an eye patch because, his lawyer says, “His eye was sore.” No further explanation was given. Spears did not attend.
The new custody arrangement stays in effect until the next hearing, scheduled for Oct. 26 – and both Federline and Spears will be required to attend, says court rep Allan Parachini.
“Britney’s access to her kids works out to about every other day,” says Parachini. The visits will not necessarily occur back-to-back, he adds.
At the beginning of the hearing, Federline stood, was sworn in by the court, and stated his name – apparently to give testimony. Spectators then were excused from the courtroom, and the session proceeded in private.
Kevin’s Attorney Reacts to Decision
After the hearing, Federline, flanked by two bodyguards, walked out without making comment.
But his attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, said, “We felt (the custody) orders were justified and Kevin was pleased with the orders in place.” He added the children “are good and right now they’re in (Federline’s) custody.”
Spears’s attorney declined to comment.
On Monday, Commissioner Scott Gordon ruled that Spears should be temporarily stripped of custody of sons Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, “until further notice of the court.”
Kaplan said earlier that based on the judge’s Sept. 17 rulings, “The court had significant evidence that these obligations were not complied with. And we’re not talking about Kevin.”
The pop star’s attorney, Sorrell Trope, explained that Spears, who had been sharing 50-50 custody of her sons, temporarily lost custody because she couldn’t provide proof of having a valid California driver’s license at Monday’s hearing. She was also accused of missing a drug test, “but there’s no evidence that she actually failed a test,” said Trope.
A close friend of Spears, Sam Lufti, said this week that the singer remains “very optimistic” that she’ll get her sons back as she completes the judge’s checklist.
On Tuesday, Spears was granted an interim California driver’s license. She had been driving illegally without one, according agency spokesperson Jan Mendoza.
